Neverworns

I love this non-word word, mostly because it reminds me of the German language and home. I thought only the Germans were good at patching up words to make a new word to define something that would otherwise take a much longer explanation - like mine, now. But yes, the other day my friend Rachel had a story on her instagram asking about neverworn items in our wardrobes. I gave a few reason on my own post today, but the underlying “problem” goes deeper.

For me, on top of the reasons I gave here, it’s also a matter of second-guessing myself, wondering if a piece or a color is really “me”. But then again, I love experimenting and trying things and sit with that feeling of discomfort for a bit. Only then will I know for sure if it’s what I love, if it’s just a mood, or if it was a terrible mistake and off it goes to consignment or donation.

On the other hand, if i’m in a rush to get rid of something because I think it’s just a phase, I end up regretting it. The solution to this would be to slow down a little, take my time - festina lente, I like to remind myself again and again. Hurry slowly.

I’ve had the top for a while, and never wore it, mostly because my jobs required a uniform and a color code and lime green wasn’t a part of it. The skirt I bought in the employee sale in NYC while working for CELINE. My money is hanging in my closet, they should have just paid me in clothes back then.

As for this bag, I did wear it a few summers ago and the autumn that followed, but then it got forgotten on a too-high-to-easily-reach top. I like to mix multiple prints in one outfit, or multiple colors, as that makes it more coherent to the eye (for me, at least) rather than just have one outstanding item. My notebooks follow me everywhere, ad while a good flip flop would have made the look probably better, I opted for loafers as I prefer them when I drive.

And this was it. I have, of course, many neverworns in here. Maybe this should be a challenge, a once a week thing to get me out of a rut.
