Wardrobe staples - what I reach out for every week
I’ve been told that great style isn’t built on endless options, it is built on reliable favorites; but I am someone who absolutely loves the said endless option, and a full closet in general. What I do not love are the days when I have “nothing to wear.” And we’ve all been there, I’m sure.
The real work…
The pieces I reach for without thinking are usually the ones doing the real work. What I can’t stop thinking about is Hedi’s Celine. I understand everyone has an opinion on this topic and on Hedi in general, and I am one of those who love the guy. His tailoring is impeccable, the fit amazing, and the quality unparalleled. His are the pieces that are doing the work in my wardrobe, without fail, and I have yet to go wrong with a classic shirt and pair of well cut (and very well fitting!!) jeans.
The difference between essentials and staples
Not every “basic” earns staple status. A wardrobe essential is something you should own, and a staple is something you genuinely want to wear — again and again. The difference is emotional.
Staples feel easy, familiar, and comfortable in the best way - they remove decision fatigue.
What I’ve learned about good wardrobes
The most stylish people I know don’t necessarily own more clothes, they simply know their uniforms. Their staples reflect their lifestyle, personality, and priorities — and everything else revolves around that foundation, because in reality, style isn’t created when you buy something new, it’s created in the repetition.
Personally, while I love my uniform and my staples, and while they all bring me joy, I love experimenting and trying new things and evolving my style as my life, and my needs, evolve. The answer, however, is not in a huge closet it’s in knowing what to choose and what to let go of with the seasons. There are people who have all these full closets, rooms and rooms of them, and those who function better with a capsule wardrobe. I think I’m in between, with lots of clothes but a few ones that make it on the rack for the week ahead. I try my best to rotate, and definitely I wore everything I have more than once, I just need to be more creative into repeating without feeling bored.
The pieces I wear almost every week
These are the clothes that survive busy mornings, last-minute plans, and days when I don’t want to overthink anything.
1. Tailored trousers
My most reliable shortcut to looking polished. Even when paired with something simple — a knit, a t-shirt, sneakers — structured pants instantly elevate an outfit and make minimal effort look intentional.
2. A perfectly worn-in pair of denim
Just the pair that fits well enough that you never question it.
3. Neutral knitwear
Light sweaters, fine knits, soft layers.
These work across seasons and situations:
mornings that start cold
overly air-conditioned spaces
casual dinners
travel days
4. A structured jacket or blazer
Thrown over almost anything, it creates instant shape and polish. It’s also my favorite trick for transitioning outfits from daytime to evening without changing completely.
5. Comfortable but elevated shoes
Shoes determine whether an outfit feels effortless or forced.
I tend to rotate between:
sleek sneakers
simple flats
low heels or boots
If I can walk all day in them, they stay in rotation.
6. A dependable everyday bag
The bag that works with everything wins. Not necessarily the trendiest one — just the one that fits real life while still feeling refined.
